OMG! I cannot believe this, the Stats Queen has gone senile..
q = 1 - p
1 - 0.4 x 10^-6 != 0.6 x 10^-6
q actually equals to 0.9999996..
What a big big big mistake..
Gosh.. Cant believe my maths has deproved so much..
So therefore, the real statistic is:
let X be the rv "no. of times you will meet your soulmate."
n = 500 p = 1/(2.5 x 10^6) = 0.4 x 10^-6
X ~ B ( n , p )
X ~ B ( 500 , 0.4 x 10^-6)
P( X = 1) = 500C1 x (0.4 x 10^-6) x (0.9999996)^499 = 0.00019996
This means that, you can only meet your true soulmate once in every 5000 people you know. Quite impossible in my opinion. But sorry for the mistake nevertheless.
